This is a memorial to the cigarette brand "Kim", which was introduced in Germany in 1970. Kim was Germany's answer to the American and highly successful Virginia Slims, which were marketed specifically towards women, with its premium length (9.5cm, not quite 100's, but almost), and slim shape. Like 120mm cigarettes, feminine brands did not take off in Germany like they did in the US. They were discontinued in 2009, leaving Vogue and Eve 120 the only feminine brands of cigarettes available in Germany at the time. Kims were originally available in regular and menthol, although menthol variants were rather rare. Towards the end, Kims were available in Kim Red Slimsize (lights) and Kim Blue Slimsize (ultralights).
So, which ladies were the Kim smokers? Like Virginia Slims, Kim was designed and marketed as a female-oriented fashion brand, generally targeted to a younger demographic (18- to 35-year-olds). The basic advertising suggestions have been independence, liberation, slimness, attractiveness, glamour, style, taste and a contrast to men's cigarettes. These female smokers identified with being feminine, emancipation, empowerment, and feminism.
